Sunday

Sundays are for sleeping in, drinking coffee, reading in bed, gathering my thoughts and long walks.

Walking by the creek near our home.

Communing with Mother Nature.

Finding refuge in the small things in life.

Something to quench one’s thirst.

Quiet moments spent with loved ones. Good food, laughter, introspection & gratitude for all the things life has to offer.

Dream . . .  Love . . . Imagine . . . xo

Vision Boards

Vision Board

I love making vision boards.and creating one is a lot of fun. The best part is that everyday it reminds me of what I have chosen to create in my life.

They are also referred to as Dream Boards, Treasure Maps, Inspiration Boards, Intention Boards and other names.

Vision Boards are basically a collage featuring images torn from magazines, photographs, and personal memorabilia along with affirmations that encourage the changes you want to see in your life.

The images and affirmations are typically pasted down with an adhesive glue onto a poster board. They can also include mixed media, sketches and anything else you wish to add. Vision Boards can also be created on Illustration board, paper or canvas, and they can range in size from very small to very large.

I find Artist Trading Cards work really well and are just the right size for my purse. However, I recommend laminating these to increase durability so they will last longer.

A vision board generally include these elements:

  • Visuals:  Magazine images, newspapers, drawings, photographs etc…
  • Affirmations: Optimistic sayings, inspirational quotes, mantras, that encourage good habits and changes in your life for the better.
  • Embellishments – including stickers, colorful rice papers, pretty candy wrappers, glass beads, play money, foil stars, glitter, silk ribbons, personal memorabilia such as movie and concert tickets, travel postcards, maps etc…
  • Dream or wish list: images or words expressing your dreams, visions or wishes you want and are creating in your life.

Here are a few examples of the types of vision boards that you can create. You can also create them for special occasions in your life.

Seasons of Change

The Tides of Nature

The ever turning wheel of the seasons mark the passing of our year and the passage of time in nature.

Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter offer four perfect occasions for us to reflect on our lives and make offerings of gratitude to connect ourselves with the cycles of Mother Earth.

  • Plan a special walk in nature once each season and make an offering of bird seed or whatever else seems appropriate.
  • Celebrate the changing seasons by making a dream board with images of your intentions for the following season.
  • One of the most meaningful offerings we can make is to place ourselves directly in nature for a period of time with no distractions.
  • Share your hopes and dreams and what you plan to do to accomplish them. Speak so that the earth, trees and other living beings around you can hear and witness your intentions. Speak from the heart.

thought for the day: Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself  to the influence of each. Let them be your only diet, drink and botanical medicines. Be blown on by all the winds. Open your pores and bathe in all the tides of nature, in all her streams and oceans, at all seasons.  – Henry David Thoreau

Altars & Sacred Moments

Sacred Moments

An altar is a sacred space where we go to connect at a deep and personal level with the power which we consider to be our God/Goddess.

It is also a special place where we can express feelings of loss, sadness, joy and happiness . . .  a place to take time out from our everyday tasks to nourish our souls.

Part of what makes an altar sacred is the significance of the items you choose to create it. Altars don’t need to be big and ornate; a small altar on your windowsill can be equally effective. An altar is a visible tangible place where you can meditate or commune with the divine.

Even if you don’t have time or inclination to meditate you can simply take a moment each day to look at it. When we acknowledge our altars in some small way each day, we infuse it with our personal energy and intention that will continually build on itself and become a healing vibration for you. This energy will begin to radiate from your altar and transform your home into a safe comforting sanctuary.

For me building an altar is a form of meditation. Each altar becomes a metaphor for what I wish to bring into my life at that particular time. In the fall it may represent gratitude for my ancestors or the intention to be more present in my life. During the winter my altar may reflect my intentions to release that which I no longer need in my life.

It can be fun to find objects for your altar when you go for a walk. Take your time and gather the gifts that nature freely offers like  fallen branches, colorful leaves, beautiful pine cones, seed pods, feathers and whatever else catches your fancy.

Remember to leave a small offering for the earth spirits in return for your new found treasures. Offerings can consist of bird seeds, small slices of fruit, bread crumbs etc…
