Cherish the moments

Cherish the moments – Mixed media collage

Did you ever share an umbrella with a special someone and cherish the memory of that moment for the rest of your life?

The taste and smell ~ the different colors and textures ~ the steady sound of raindrops as they grew heavier falling from the sky. Laughing and soaking up the joy of one another’s presence ~ huddled beneath an iron grey sky.

The moments we share with others are no ordinary moments. The small everyday things in life that we often take for granted are brimming over with little treasures or gifts  just waiting to be unwrapped and savored.

Sweet memories layered ~ one on top of the other.

thought for the day; “And even if you were in some prison, the walls of which let none of the sounds of the world come to your senses – would you not then still have your childhood, that precious, kingly possession, that treasure-house of memories?”  ~Rainer Maria Rilke

Welcome Sweet October!

Autumn leaves clinging to trees

Spinning & floating through the air ~ A time of change

Floating in water ~ reflections

The circle of life ~ Watching the seasons come and go

thought for the day;

The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes,
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.

And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes;
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea. ~ T. S. Eliot

Hummingbird

What a beautiful Day! This morning I stepped out onto my patio and began my morning ritual of greeting the sun and prayer. My eyes were closed and towards the end of the prayer, I opened my eyes and found myself staring at a hummingbird suspended two or so inches from my face.

We were literally nose to nose! The hummingbird remained there for what seemed to be minutes and then darted away.

In a word ~ Spellbound ~ by the magic of the moment.

Hummingbirds ~ Watercolor~ from my sketch book

Thought for the day ~

“In truth, the human experience of magic – our ancestral, animistic awareness of the world as alive and expressive – was never really lost. Our senses simply shifted their animistic participation from the depths of the surrounding landscape toward the letters written on pages and, today, on screens. Only thus could the letters begin to come alive and to speak. As a Zuni elder focuses her eyes upon a cactus and abruptly hears the cactus begin to speak, so we focus our eyes upon these printed marks and immediately hear voices. We hear spoken words, witness strange scenes or visions, even experience other lives. As nonhuman animals, plants, and even “inanimate” rivers once spoke to our oral ancestors, so the ostensibly “inert” letters on the page now speak to us! This is a form of animism that we take for granted, but it is animism nonetheless – as mysterious as a talking stone.

And indeed, it is only when a culture shifts its participation to these printed letters that the stones fall silent. Only as our senses transfer their animating magic to the written word do the trees become mute, the other animals fall dumb.” ~ David Abram

Solstice, Silk & Pendulums

The candle is lit, the house has been smudged and I begin my day sitting here looking out my window watching a crow searching for goodies in my neighbor’s flower pots on her balcony. He has found something large and shiny! Now he is strutting back and forth across the balcony railing with his treasure secured in his beak. What a character he is. lol

I celebrated Summer solstice by spending some time out in nature reconnecting with mother earth, listening to the wind moving through the Oak trees, breathing in the fragrance of  wildflowers and letting the music of birdsong flow over me. Needless to say, I came back home feeling totally refreshed and rejuvenated.

Lately, I have been so busy designing and creating new pendulums, and also downloading my art to my gallery site that  suddenly, I found myself a little overwhelmed and exhausted. Don’t get me  wrong,  I love being in the creative mode! I love my life and what I do, but sometimes I get carried away. I need to be kinder to my body.

The redesign of my newest pendulums started when I decided to incorporate natural fibers into my creations. I started thinking about all the different ways in which this could be done and came up with some interesting ideas. After making a few sketches and doing a little research I decided to use vintage silk , mainly because of it’s beauty, folklore, and strength.

In the near future I plan on incorporating other elements and fabrics into my jewelry designs. I found a stash of some beautiful antique fabrics  stored away in my chest of drawers along with an old silk sari and so much more. What a treasure trove!

Here are a couple of the pendulums I created using vintage silk, pearls, rose quartz, vintage abalone shell buttons and sterling silver wire. The Vintage Abalone Shell Buttons have words of inspiration written on them or images & words collaged onto them.

Silk is said to protect oneself  from negative energy, physical damage,  and outside vibrations. Silk also promotes abundance, strength, courage, and long life. The Goddess of silk making is Lei Tzu.
