Happy New Year ~ 2012

Happy New Year! Here at the old homestead, new year’s eve was an evening of creativity, drumming, singing, eating yummy food and last but not least a little magic & enchantment sprinkled all through the night.

“May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.” ~ Neil Gaiman

“We will open the book. Its pages are blank. We are going to put words on them ourselves. The book is called Opportunity and its first chapter is New Year’s Day.”  ~ Edith Lovejoy Pierce

“Everyday Goddessing  is about sharing magical techniques and sacred wisdom with other beautiful Goddess women. I believe that within every woman there is a goddess, a wise woman, beautiful, creative, powerful, with a deep soul, and that everything we need and are looking for is already inside  each of us.” ~ Rose Arizmendi

Tea & Other Things

Drink your tea slowly and reverently,
as if the axis
on which the earth revolves —
slowly, evenly, without
rushing toward the future.
Live the actual moment.
Only this moment is life.
~ Thich Nhat Hanh ~

Other Things ~ I love

*  Geoffrey Gorman ~ works with wire, weathered wood, wax, cloth and found objects to create his fabulous  whimsical animals. You can find his work at his website here

*  Paige Bradley ~ beautiful bronze sculptured forms that seem as if they could come to life at any moment.  You can find her website here

*  I love this charming house that Simon Dale built for his family in Wales. Imagine ~ building a house for less than $5000!

Some Other Things I Love

* * * * *

The way the season ripens and swells as I watch the leaves quiver and fall with the rain.

* * * *

The steady sound of rain falling upon the garden below and the way it’s  growing louder and heavier, making the trees lose their leaves even more quickly.

* * *

Watching the water fall from the sky.

 Here is one of my favorite poems by W.S. Merwin

“In the stillness after the rain ends
nothing is to be heard but the drops falling
one at a time from the tips of the leaves
into the night and I lie in the dark
listening to what I remember
while the night flies on with us into itself”

Reflections On A Rainy Day

Today, I woke up to heavy rain and wind. It was raining so hard I could barely see the neighbors house across the street.

Later I wandered quietly back to my desk,  savoring the warm comfort of my office. My quiet little world where I can dream, write and create.

A brief interlude~ a respite from the heavy rain that had been falling all morning.

Standing in a place where land and sky meet ~ Capturing reflections , clouds winging past, moments, wind and more rain. . .

A perfect lunch for a day like this  . . .

“Soup is the song of the hearth…  and the home.” ~ Louis P. De Gouy

The ever-changing play of darkness and light ~  Dark clouds hang above our head. The storm in all it’s fierceness is still beautiful, poetic, and lyrical as winter gives way to spring.

“Last night the rain spoke to me
slowly, saying, what joy
to come falling out of the brisk cloud,
to be happy again in a new way
on the earth!” ~ Mary Oliver

Happy New Year ~ 2011

As one year comes to a close and another year begins ~  the doorway swings open for new opportunities, new adventures and growth.

The New Year is the time of the year when we clean and bless our homes ~ sweeping out the old or unwanted energy by smudging or burning incense and lighting a candle to bless our home, our family and friends.

It’s also a time to turn inward, to deepen, to slow down, to nurture the seeds of hope and tend the garden of peace within our hearts and the world.

~ Ask yourself what you would most like to create this year?

~ What deepest part of yourself would you like to forgive and heal or nurture?

~ What can you do to create change in your life and your community?

You are like a candle.
Imagine you are sending light out all around you.
All your words, thoughts and actions
are going in many directions.
If you say something kind,
your kind words go in many directions,
and you yourself go with them.
We are …transforming and continuing
in a different form at every moment.
~ Thich Nhat Hanh

Joy & Creativity

This video features the beautiful artwork by visionary artist Mary Ann Butler. She talks about creativity and joy and the importance of weaving these two together for personal and planetary well-being.

I love the “Egyptian Mysteries Unveiled” wearable art piece. Wow!

thought for the day;

“The great teachings unanimously emphasize that all the peace, wisdom, and joy in the universe are already within us; we don’t have to gain, develop, or attain them. We’re like a child standing in a beautiful park with his eyes shut tight. We don’t need to imagine trees, flowers, deer, birds, and sky; we merely need to open our eyes and realize what is already here, who we really are . . . as soon as we quit pretending we’re small or unholy.” – unknown
