Welcome Sweet October!

Autumn leaves clinging to trees

Spinning & floating through the air ~ A time of change

Floating in water ~ reflections

The circle of life ~ Watching the seasons come and go

thought for the day;

The yellow fog that rubs its back upon the window-panes,
The yellow smoke that rubs its muzzle on the window-panes
Licked its tongue into the corners of the evening,
Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains,
Let fall upon its back the soot that falls from chimneys,
Slipped by the terrace, made a sudden leap,
And seeing that it was a soft October night,
Curled once about the house, and fell asleep.

And indeed there will be time
For the yellow smoke that slides along the street,
Rubbing its back upon the window-panes;
There will be time, there will be time
To prepare a face to meet the faces that you meet;
There will be time to murder and create,
And time for all the works and days of hands
That lift and drop a question on your plate;
Time for you and time for me,
And time yet for a hundred indecisions,
And for a hundred visions and revisions,
Before the taking of a toast and tea. ~ T. S. Eliot

Autumn Leaves

Fall is in the air!  Sigh, how quickly it all changes, the sun sets a little earlier, the mornings are cooler and time slides by second by second tick, tick, tick….

I love this time of the year, the brisk morning air and the sound of leaves rustling by, but I always feel a little pensive when the leaves begin to fall from the trees and the nights begin to grow cooler.

I find myself turning inward , closing our blinds earlier, gathering books to read, stockpiling candles and planning ahead  for those colder days and nights ahead.  Autumn is definitely nipping at the heels of summer.

Sitting quietly,  looking out my window observing how the changing of the seasons are reflected in my work. The colors of Autumn:  ochre, rust, red, orange, moss green and sienna.

Fall slowly ever so softly draping itself around me . . . The Wheel of life turns . . . A time of reflection, of nesting and of gathering  those we love closer.

I found this big guy on our bedroom window screen yesterday and he is still there. Beautiful!

Aunt Leaf

Needing one, I invented her –
the great-great-aunt dark as hickory
called Shining-Leaf, or Drifting-Cloud
or The-Beauty-of-the-Night.

Dear aunt, I’d call into the leaves,
and she’d rise up, like an old log in a pool,
and whisper in a language only the two of us knew
the word that meant follow,

and we’d travel
cheerful as birds
out of the dusty town and into the trees
where she would change us both into something quicker –
two foxes with black feet,
two snakes green as ribbons,
two shimmering fish – and all day we’d travel.

At day’s end she’d leave me back at my own door
with the rest of my family,
who were kind, but solid as wood
and rarely wandered. While she,
old twist of feathers and birch bark,
would walk in circles wide as rain and then
float back scattering the rags of twilight
on fluttering moth wings;

or she’d slouch from the barn like a gray opossum;
or she’d hang in the milky moonlight
burning like a medallion,

this bone dream, this friend I had to have,
this old woman made out of leaves.  – Mary Oliver

A Mother’s Day Message

On Mothers Day, I received a beautiful phone message from a dear friend and it was so heartfelt and nurturing it made me cry. It made me realize how different our lives could be if everyone received a message like this on a daily basis or even weekly. … How about a great big phone hug or email hug a day?

In all of us there is a deep human need to be recognized, nurtured and loved for who we are. It doesn’t matter how successful, self confident or self aware we are, we all need a little love and nurturing at times. Like the song says,  “All we need is Love!”

So today, I made a few phone calls and sent a couple of emails to some really beautiful, soulful people in my life whom I thought might need a little unconditional love, understanding and positive energy .

My promise to myself is to make every effort to spend more time communicating with those I love and care about, who are important to me, who enrich my life and nurture my goddess within.

P.S. My heart fills up with love and gratitude when I think of all you beautiful everyday goddesses who share your stories, wisdom, laughter, joy, creativity and inspiration with me on a daily basis. I want to say thank you so much for your support and feedback.

Space Clearing

For the past couple of days, space clearing has been at the top of my list of things I needed to get done this week. The energy in our home was beginning to feel a little stagnant and less than harmonious .

Any time I start  feeling unusually tired, frazzled or more out of sorts than normal,  I know it’s time to clear out the old negative energies that have accumulated and get some positive energy flowing around the space I call home.

I decided this morning was the perfect time to get started. I began by physically cleaning our house and then started clearing out the clutter that has accumulated and piled up over the past week.

Now it was time for the fun part of space clearing.

I began smudging the whole house with luscious white sage, and then moved on to playing my Tibetan bowls which really gets the energy moving. You can also use bells or simply clap your hands anywhere you sense stagnate energy. To locate any other unwanted energies in your home you can use a pendulum or dowsing rods.

The bedroom, one of the most important rooms in the house is where we sleep, dream,  receive healing and messages from our spirit guides.  A good place for practicing good Feng Shui.  Some quick cures for a bedroom are  soothing colors to create balance, plenty of fresh air, and several levels of lighting. Things that destroy good Feng Shui energy in a bedroom are computers and televisions. You may also use chimes, bells or a crystal tuner to clear your bedroom of any distracting energies.

If you experience disturbing dreams or nightmares, you may find it helpful to change the sheets on your bed the next morning, it helps to shift the energy. A beautiful sage woman gave me this tip years ago and I find it works for me.Thank goodness I don’t have these dreams very often. One of my favorite bedtime rituals is to lightly spray lavender water over my pillow just before going to sleep. Lavender or sage water is great for clearing and may be used instead of incense.

Make sure to tidy up any sacred altars you might have as these are all about spirit and the beautiful healing work you do. Your home is your sanctuary and as such, it’s important to love the things you have around you. Clear away anything that does not feed your spirit and soul, and strive to create a harmonious and supportive energy field where your beautiful lovely goddess self can thrive.

And now, last but not least, Himalayan salt lamps are an amazing generator of negative ions and fill your home with fabulous healing energy. I heard all kinds of stories about how salt rocks restore your energy, enhance relaxation, and promote healing. When we brought our first one home years ago I was amazed at how well it worked and we decided to get another one for our bedroom.When we come home and open the front door the first thing that greets us is the glowing warm amber colors of our salt lamp, we love the tranquil, peaceful energy it creates in our home.

So I send a big hug and greetings to all you beautiful goddesses out there creating sacred space for each other filled with joy, creativity, inspiration, laughter, healing and deep soul connections.

Happy Winter Solstice

Winter Solstice #2

Quote for the day;

“So the shortest day came, and the year died,
And everywhere down the centuries of the snow-white world
Came people singing, dancing,
To drive the dark away.

They lighted candles in the winter trees;
They hung their homes with evergreen;
They burned beseeching fires all night long
To keep the year alive,

And when the new year’s sunshine blazed awake
They shouted, reveling.
Through all the frosty ages you can hear them
Echoing behind us – Listen!!
All the long echoes sing the same delight,
This shortest day,

As promise wakens in the sleeping land:
They carol, fest, give thanks,
And dearly love their friends,
And hope for peace.
And so do we, here, now,
This year and every year.
Welcome Yule!!”
